Happy Valentine's Day

Love is all around!

Finding natural "hearts" started with this.

Then I took a walk and saw this.

A tiny bit of egg white escaped the griddle to show some love.

Oh, chocolate cake loves us too!

 I chopped celery for soup.
When I cleaned off the cutting board,
I found this heart.

 Broccoli love.

Deer meat skillet magic!

A baby seal napped on my napkin.
Nibbling an apple and sunflower seeds,
I turned a slice over to pick up a seed.
This is what I got.
I tried to create another and the seeds wouldn't stick.
Nature does it best!

Have a Happy Valentine's Day
and keep your eyes open
for Love!

Love connects hearts forever

This is a Giesswein boiled wool embroidered jacket I bought in Salzburg, Austria during the Christmas markets in 1997. I've used it for Children's Time at Church, to show how love connects our hearts, Valentine's and bitter cold days. The truth is, love connects hearts forever.

Love the Great Healer

In the January/February issue of Angels on Earth, editor, Colleen Hughes, commented about the joy of receiving a hand written letter. I love to send and receive them. They aren't limited to Valentine's Day, they're good for all occasions. Check out their link angelsonearth.org/valentine  Someone you know might like a love note from you today.

Love is mightier than fear.

Valentines & Elephants

Pickled beets left a Valentine on my plate.  I promise I did not alter their drop of juice.

If I had the memory of an elephant, I would never forget to send Valentines. I would remember everybody's name, their birthday, anniversary, get well or encouragement card.  I would always know where my car keys are and my car.  I can only wish and keep trying.

I read Carol McCloud's Fill A Bucket to a second grade class.  When a person does something nice for someone, it fills that person's bucket and the giver's.  Each child smiled remembering something they had done that put a smile on someone's face.  Bullies are bucket dippers.  Not only do they take out of the other person's bucket, they take out of their own.  It's a "nobody feels good" moment.  I gave each student two Valentine stickers with the instructions to keep one and give the other away.

One of my favorite cards is from leanin'tree.com   In the kid quips section, 7 year-old Harris Weinstein's card says: If I had TEN thumbs * I'd put them ALL UP for YOU.

Nobody ever died from too much praise.   A local doctor paid the tuition for several nursing students.  I've never met him, but he deserved my hand written thank you note.  Appreciation goes a long ways.  Next Wednesday I'm giving each student a blank thank you card to fill out and give to someone they appreciate.

HAPPY VALENTINE'S DAY 2010

Love lives in the light and dark places of our souls. In fact, love is all there is and all that lasts.
Valentine's Day: Flowers and candy. A call from afar. Feeling the love over the line. Warm thoughts of and from those passed. Blessings all.
Wishing you a happy, "I love knowing you," day.

Love's Best

Love remembered
Times shared
Lessons
Love overflowed
Made sacred music
Slowly we grew
To one
Wanting
to trade souls
Just for a moment
To know what each knows

Love connects hearts forever.

Was it the luck of the ...

...Irish, draw, rabbits foot, salt over the shoulder, Friday the 13th, prayed up or spared?

Friday the 13th of February, JB got the call no parent wants,"Your daughter has been in a car accident and won't make it through the night."

Pray first, put pants on second. We left at midnight to drive the 800+ miles on Valentine's Day. No time for romance and cards, it was crackers and peanut butter and smoked oysters that left a smelly, greasy stain on the passenger's plastic floor mat. Daylight revealed the oil had spread to the shape of a heart.

Hour by hour the details unfolded. Brandi was riding with a girlfriend on the narrow, twisted roads of Mississippi. The white line is about 2" from the edge and the shoulders aren't graveled. The driver went off the road and over corrected causing the car to flip end over end. Brandi was pinned beneath in the mud.

A nearby homeowner heard the crash, slipped into her shoes and ran to the scene dialing 911. Brandi's face was in the windshield on the outside of the car. The frame of the door rested on her neck. She wasn't breathing, believed dead. The engine was smoking. The woman helped the driver out and away.

Chuck, a Deputy Sheriff, happened upon the scene and organized volunteers to lift the car off Brandi. She took two deep breaths. An ambulance rushed both girls to the hospital. Doctors told the family Brandi would not make it. The driver had a broken wrist and torn ligaments at her knee.

Brandi's vitals stabilized. Too foggy for a helicopter, an ambulance transferred her to Elvis Presley Trauma Center in Memphis, TN where people go to die. Non-responsive, doctors again said she would not make it.

We arrived at the hospital at 2 pm. Little John warned us about the size of her head: basketball or watermelon. But she was awake and asking the same question over and over. More tests. At Elvis's wall outside ICU, the line of concerned family and friends grew longer.

Sunday she announced she was hungry. Later in the day she started walking. Monday pm she was dismissed from ICU to go home. Not one miracle, many. Praise theLord! Is luck Divine intervention?
