My Pineapple Ministry

I loved it when Kroger's had imported, fresh pineapple. If they were too green, I let them rest on the counter and turned them daily. When the hide began to soften and I could smell the pineapple, I cut the top off and planted it outside. (It would last through warm weather.) Turned on it's top, on a saucer, allowed the juice to make its way down to the top.

It's a fragrant messy moment

the cakes are made with love

There are many recipes for pineapple upside down cake. My favorite is the recipe that uses buttermilk. I make the 10" pineapple upside down cake in my cast iron skillet. Sometimes I make two 8", or four 4", or use a round cake pan. I've made so many, more than 60. We enjoy them and they've been wonderful gifts for family and friends. I've mentioned how good they were and someone would say, "I wish somebody would make me one." So I did. Making money isn't my motive. Pineapples represent Hospitality. It's worth the effort just to see people smile and feel blessed.

More Missouri Castoffs

Gene just came in from work carrying a 19" Symphonic TV and remote. That wouldn't be anything to write home about, except, he sold a lady cable, and she gave him the TV.

Last week we found a computer desk with a note, "Free. Take and enjoy!" We did.

Over the weekend we acquired another chair, two end tables and a lamp. Forget about furnishing on a dime, we have 10 cents left!

It's ok sleeping on the floor on a single air mattress. We lay the same direction and inhale at the same time. It isn't far to the floor, if we fall off. The question is not how, but when, one of us will come upon a no-longer-needed bed? I want to jump on the bed. I want to jump on the bed.

Jewelry Tree

A cameo from the shoe-man's wife started it all. Papa pondered what to do with it. He decided to ask other women a simple question, "I'm thinking of making a jewelry tree. Do you have a pin or a pair of earrings you'd like to donate?" And they came like a flood from friends and family all over the community. Every gift had a story. The cameo sits in the center near the top. The dangling red ones, across from it, were the neighbor, Mildred's, gift the first year she taught school. The turquoise at the base of the tree belonged to Marie from the Fairview Cafe. So much jewelry came in he created five trees. In loving memory of him and them, this one is our treasure.
